A true personification of resilience, passion, and inspiration. A multiple Paralympic gold medalist, world record holder, and a genuine icon of para-swimming, Ellie Simmonds has left an indelible mark on the sporting world. September 2024, we welcomed her at Amada Colossos Resort in Rhodes. From September 25th to 30th, Ellie experienced firsthand the exciting Amada Water World, and the pristine Blue Flagged beach of Kallithea. Her warmth, enthusiasm, and infectious energy made her visit truly special—not just for us, but for every guest and team member she met along the way. We sat down with Ellie to talk about her experience at the Resort, her reflections on Amada Water World, and her life beyond the pool.
Finding Peace and Joy in Rhodes
Amada Colossos Resort: Which part of your Amada holidays was your favorite?
Ellie Simmonds: I think my favourite part was getting the chance to decompress in such a beautiful resort. I had a really busy summer with the Olympics and the Paralympics, so the trip was the first moment I had just to stop, have time for myself, spend time with my friend, sunbathe, take in the activities such as the gym, enjoy the delicious food, the location, the beach, all the amazing drinks, and the great accommodation. It was a great chance just to wind down and look after myself.
The Wonders of Amada Water World
Amada Colossos Resort: As a celebrated swimmer, how would you describe Amada Water World?
Ellie Simmonds: I thought it was incredible, and perfect for all ages and all abilities. I think it’s just amazing - I’ve never seen a swimming pool that big in a resort before! To have catered for everyone, be a great temperature, be kept really well, have lovely water, and how beautiful it was, I was just blown away.
Amada Colossos Resort: Who do you think would enjoy the Amada swimming facilities the most?
Ellie Simmonds: Again, I think it was everything. Like I mentioned, it caters for all ages, all abilities, from babies, to youngsters playing in the water, to the older generation, to having a pool bar where you can socialise and relax - that’s what it's so good at, catering for all.
Being Pampered
Amada Colossos Resort: As a team, we strive to be 'hospitality champions' every day. What do you think are the key skills that make someone a champion in their field?
Ellie Simmonds: Personality, being accommodating, being friendly, being sociable, helping others, being kind - I think just looking after your guests and being friendly, and being there for them every step of the way. The team when we were there was just amazing, so accommodating. They really helped us in every possible way, whether it was giving us help, advice, booking us into things, checking in on us to see how we were, I thought the team were just absolutely amazing.
Wellness and Balance at Amada Colossos Resort
Amada Colossos Resort: How did you replicate your daily workout routine while staying with us?
Ellie Simmonds: I think there were options for everyone. We really enjoyed the gym facilities during our stay. It was nice to get a workout done in the morning because, although we were on holiday, it was nice to just look after our bodies, and also our minds as well. The facilities were just fabulous. We also had a massage at Amada Wellness Spa, which again really helps with looking after both the body and mind.
Rhodes: A Place to Fall in Love With
Amada Colossos Resort: What did you like most about Rhodes?
Ellie Simmonds: History. We did go out and explore the places; the diversity of the history, the markets, the weather, the beaches, the people were really friendly, the food, just everything. Greece definitely has a place in my heart.
